Plenty of apps describe themselves as free and then stop working at the moment you try to finish anything. This page sets out precisely what the free version of Dayjavu does and where it ends, so you can decide before installing rather than after.
What the free version does
Everything structural. You can scan your photo library across any date range, filter by album, orientation or which camera shot the footage, see a calendar of every day that contains video, choose the clip for each day and set exactly where its excerpt starts.
You can then export a finished video to your photo library, in portrait or landscape, at 1080p or 4K, with the date and location overlays switched on or off. None of that is gated.
Where it stops
Four limits. The free version covers a single compilation, and that compilation holds a maximum of 12 days, so a full year needs the paid unlock. Clip length is limited to one or two seconds. Three, four and five are locked. And exports carry a small watermark.
Those limits are deliberately at the end rather than the beginning: you get to build something real and watch it back before deciding whether it is worth paying for.
Is 12 days enough to judge it?
For deciding whether the format moves you, usually yes. Twelve days of your own life at one second each is enough to feel what a year would be like. A good test is a single trip or a fortnight you remember well.
What twelve days cannot show you is the effect that makes the format worth doing, which only appears somewhere past a hundred days: the slow drift of seasons, haircuts, and children changing shape.
