Video With a Location Overlay
A travel compilation that crosses four countries is hard to follow without captions, and adding them by hand in an editor is the kind of job nobody finishes. Dayjavu reads the location already stored in each clip and prints it over the frame automatically.
It comes from the footage, not from you
Videos shot with location services enabled carry coordinates in their metadata. Dayjavu takes those coordinates, resolves them to a place name, and prints the city (Asakusa, Lisbon, ReykjavÃk) in the corner of the frame for that day.
There is nothing to type and nothing to look up. Days whose clips have no location data simply show no place name, which is the correct behaviour rather than a gap to fill in.
Why it matters most on long compilations
On a single-trip recap, the viewer already knows where they are. On a year of travel, or a compilation spanning several trips, the place name is what stops the film becoming an unmoored sequence of nice shots.
It works particularly well combined with the date overlay: together they turn a montage into something closer to a record, where each frame tells you when and where without a word of narration.
Optional, per compilation
Location and date are independent switches set on each compilation, so the same source clips can produce a clean, caption-free version to post and an annotated version to keep. Turn both off and the export is just the video.

FAQ
- What if a clip has no location data?
- That day shows no place name. It is common for videos taken with location services switched off, or for clips that have been re-saved and stripped of metadata.
- Does this send my location anywhere?
- The place name is resolved for display and composited into the video on your device. Nothing about your location is sent to Dayjavu. There is no server to send it to.
- Can I edit the place name?
- The overlay uses the name resolved from the clip’s own coordinates. If you want different wording, export without the overlay and add captions in an editor.
